Our First must have is for towing your trailer. We went with a BlueOX Trackpro. This is the version with the two solid steel bars you snap into place. They also offer the Sway Pro model which uses bars with chains on the end as opposed to all steel bars. Despite the name the Trackpro has the anti-sway bar built into it, so the TrackPro does the best of both worlds weight distribution, and anti sway. We wouldn’t be able to live without this thing. Our Coachmen Clipper 25bh has an advertised hitch weight (also called tongue weight) of 205kg (450lbs). Since we never believe the brochure when we went to look at our trailer we brought our own tongue weight scale and the real number hitch weight was just around the 225kg (500lb) mark. This meant that when you add 2x 20lb propane tanks (at 45lb full) and a battery (60lb) right onto the tongue it adds an additional 69kg (150lb) bringing our total tongue weight up to almost 300kg (650lbs) before we put anything else in the front storage. Because of this we went with the model BXW0850 which is rated for tongue weights between 600-800lbs.
Let me tell you this thing works wonders. When I have the trailer hitched to this it’s pretty rock solid. I’m not saying “oh it’s so smooth I don’t even know it’s there”, but it helps so massively. Now granted when I’m cruising along at highway speeds of 95-100km/h (59-63mph) and I get hit with a good gust of wind I definitely notice the trailer move the truck around a bit. But not once have I ever felt out of control, not once have we ever been in an unsafe situation, and we’ve not been in any towing danger and I firmly believe it’s all due to the amazing Blue Ox weight Distribution Hitch
